Academic Integrity

Academic Integrity refers to the ethical standards and honest behavior expected in academic work. It means completing assignments, assessments, and examinations responsibly, fairly, and truthfully.

What is Academic Integrity?

Students are expected to demonstrate integrity in all forms of work, including written, digital, collaborative, and practical assignments.

Academic Integrity is the foundation of:

  • Trust in the learning process
  • Fairness across student submissions
  • Credibility of qualifications
  • Personal and professional growth

By continuing this course, you affirm that

  • Your work is your own and properly referenced.
  • You will not engage in plagiarism or cheating.
  • You will use AI tools ethically and only as permitted by the instructor.
Academic Integrity & Authorized Tools

Academic integrity is a core expectation in this course. All learners must complete assignments honestly and use the approved tools responsibly. The following page outlines the tools permitted for academic work and provides guidelines for their use.

Approved Digital Tools

Grammarly: May be used for grammar, spelling, and clarity checks. Do not use features that rewrite, generate, or heavily alter content. Students must maintain original work.

Respondus LockDown Browser: Required for final examination. Students must install the software, complete a practice test, and follow webcam monitoring guidelines when enabled.

Zoom / Google Meet: Approved for live sessions, oral exams, and consultations. Students must log in using their University of Belize email accounts.

Moodle Tools: Assignment uploads, quizzes, tests, forums, journals, and workshops must reflect students’ original submissions.

Academic Integrity Requirement

  • Submit only your own work unless group work is explicitly permitted.
  • Properly cite all sources using the required citation style.
  • Do not share assessment question items or materials with others.
  • Do not use AI writing tools to generate full assignments unless specifically allowed.
  • Follow all Respondus rules during locked-down assessments.
  • Keep cameras and microphones on during proctored sessions when required.

Guidelines for Tool Usage

Grammarly:

  • Allowed: grammar correction, clarity, tone suggestions.
  • Not Allowed: content generation, paraphrasing entire paragraphs, rewriting full assignments.
  • Students must disclose their use of Grammarly if asked.

Respondus LockDown Browser:

  • Install before the first assessment.
  • Use a stable internet connection.
  • Avoid using multiple monitors or external devices during tests.
  • Follow facial visibility and workspace rules for webcam monitoring.
